The Manchester Pull-Up Club | Phil Jessé's Community Initiative
What is the point of completing half a million pull-ups if you keep the knowledge to yourself? Discover why Phil Jessé built an altruistic, ego-free community in the heart of Manchester.
What is the point of mastering a skill if you keep the knowledge to yourself?
I have spent the last decade obsessed with strict-form calisthenics and ultra-endurance. I am known to many simply as the "Pull-Up Guy," having logged over 500,000 reps—including completing 100,000 pull-ups in just 151 days, and repeatedly repping out 500 pull-ups in under 90 minutes.
But those numbers, in isolation, mean very little. True mastery is measured by what you share. That is the driving force behind the Manchester Pull-Up Club.
The Philosophy of the Bar (Why I Do This)
People often ask what the business model is for the Pull-Up Club. There isn't one. I do not get paid to run this.
Many successful professionals choose to give back to society through financial charitable contributions. While that is incredibly valid, I wanted a more direct, tangible impact. I wanted to see the people I was helping, share the friction, and experience the growth alongside them.
My home is Manchester City Centre, which means this is my community.
The Pull-Up Club is my altruistic endeavour to give back to the city I live in. It is a space designed for people to learn technique, practice safely, and challenge themselves. There are no egos here, no judgements, and no prerequisites. Whether you are aiming for your very first rep or your first five hundred, it is simply a supportive environment where we use physical endurance to build collective resilience.
A Laboratory for the Mind
I do not view the pull-up bar as a piece of gym equipment. I view it as a Laboratory of the Mind.
Physical friction is the ultimate teacher of mental truth. When you are hanging from a steel bar and your nervous system is screaming at you to drop, you learn how to sit in stillness. You learn how to command the mind when the body wants to quit. We bring that exact philosophy to every session.
The 500 Rep Team Challenge (The Marriott Event)
The pinnacle of our community ethos is the 500 Rep Team Challenge.
While our roots are in Manchester City Centre, the ethos of the Pull-Up Club travels. To demonstrate the power of collective resilience, we hosted a flagship 500-rep challenge at the world-renowned Delta Hotels by Marriott in Worsley Park.
This event was not about elite individuals; it was about bringing fitness enthusiasts of all levels together to push their limits and build camaraderie. It is less about perfect solitary reps and more about cheering each other on and achieving an epic goal together. It is a powerful demonstration of perseverance and what humans can accomplish when they operate as a unified system.

The Blueprint: Master Your Pull-Up Endurance
You do not have to live in Manchester to access the knowledge of the Pull-Up Club.
Over the years, I have developed a highly specific, tested framework for building extreme endurance without injury. I call it the Reps, Sets, Blocks, and Milestones system.
If you want to understand the exact grip mechanics, breathing strategies, and mental frameworks I used to scale my performance to over half a million reps, I have documented the entire system. This comprehensive guide is your foundation for pull-up excellence and is the next best thing to training with me in person.

From the Bar to the Boardroom (Strategic Coaching)
The discipline required to execute 500,000 pull-ups is the exact same discipline required to execute a high-level corporate pivot or build a sustainable business.
I am an endurance athlete on the bar, but I am an architect in the boardroom.
The physical resilience I have cultivated in my "Laboratory of the Mind" directly informs the strategic rigour I bring to my coaching clients. I work with high-performing individuals and corporate organisations who are carrying a heavy cognitive load and need an unbiased "Partner in Thought" to help them navigate complex challenges.
